The Vancouver Canucks are reportedly seeking goaltending support as concerns grow about Thatcher Demko's health heading into training camp.
Training camps for the NHL are set to begin in about a month, but on Tuesday, a report emerged regarding Demko's status. After suffering back-to-back knee injuries late in the regular season, followed by another in Game 1 against Nashville, there's uncertainty about when he'll be fully recovered.
Rick Dhaliwal of 'Donnie & Dhali' reported that while Demko is making progress in his recovery, there is no clear timeline for when he'll be 100% healthy. This uncertainty is worrisome for the Canucks.
"Well I think his status is very important. You guys know that training camp is around the corner and here we are in mid-August and no one is talking about Demko and what's going on." Dhaliwal said.
He added, "So, what I am hearing on Demko is that he's progressing, but no timetable as to when he's going to be 100 percent healthy."

Due to this uncertainty, Dhaliwal mentioned that the Canucks are exploring options in the goalie market to protect themselves.
"I wouldn't be surprised if the Canucks continue to poke around the goalie market again, mostly just to protect themselves. Now the Canucks may need insurance just in case, which is a good move on their part. This is the time to talk to player's agents about PTOs." Dhaliwal said.
Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has several free-agent options to consider, but if it looks like Demko won't be ready for the start of the regular season, two veteran goalies, Martin Jones and Antti Raanta, seem like the most logical choices.
