Vancouver Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko is still dealing with an injury he picked up during the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, and it seems it won't heal completely.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Demko's injury can't be fixed with surgery, meaning he'll have to manage and play through the issue for the foreseeable future.
"The best piece of information I've been given is quite simply, he's going to have to learn to play with this," revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "It's not something that can be fixed with surgery but it's something that he's going to have to learn to play through and can play through."

There are also concerns about whether Demko will be ready for the start of the upcoming season. While his return timeline is unclear, Friedman suggested he shouldn't miss a significant portion of the season.
What's even more troubling is the possibility that the injury got worse because Demko was rushed back into action. If that's true, it could be an issue that lingers and affects the Canucks in the long run.
"I believe that the Canucks told Demko last year before the playoffs 'We need to know that we can count on you in the postseason, we don't want uncertainty, and you have to play 2 games before the playoffs before we commit to you to start the postseason,'" revealed Friedman.
