The Vancouver Canucks are turning to third-string goalie Arturs Silovs for Game 5 against the Nashville Predators.
Canucks insider Irfaan Gaffar reported this morning that Silovs, 23 years old, will step in for backup goalie Casey DeSmith, who was injured in Game 3. Starting goalie Thatcher Demko, a nominee for the 2024 Vezina Trophy, is out week to week with a suspected knee injury.
Sounds like Artus Silovs will start game five for the Canucks.
Earlier, the Canucks faced a tough situation losing both Demko and DeSmith to injuries. DeSmith's injury, though, seems minor, with NHL insider Frank Seravalli suggesting he could return as soon as Game 5.
This provides some relief for the Canucks, who now rely on Silovs, despite his limited NHL experience.
Stay tuned for more updates.
