Mitch Marner just joined incredibly elite NHL company, and Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy could not be happier with his dynamic superstar.
The Golden Knights winger registered a beautiful assist to officially hit the 800-point mark over his NHL career. He continues to prove his critics wrong on a nightly basis.
He needed just 715 games to reach the prestigious milestone, showcasing exactly why Vegas targeted him so aggressively. The massive contract is already looking like a solid investment.
That rapid pace makes him the eighth-fastest active skater to pull off the feat. He is currently operating at a completely different level than most of his peers.
Take a long look at the legendary names sitting ahead of him on that leaderboard. It is a certified who's who of first-ballot Hall of Fame talent.
Connor McDavid managed the incredible feat in a ridiculous 545 games. Sidney Crosby sits second on the active list, needing just 571 appearances to hit the massive number.
Thriving In The Desert
Goal-scoring machine Alex Ovechkin reached 800 points in 658 games, while Evgeni Malkin and Leon Draisaitl sit right behind him. The company does not get much better than that.
Artemi Panarin and Nikita Kucherov round out the exclusive group that beat Marner to the punch. Edging out David Pastrnak for the eighth spot is a massive flex for the playmaker.
That represents a staggering level of consistent offensive output for a guy who absorbed endless heat up north. He is generating crisp passing plays and controlling the puck with absolute confidence.
His incredibly messy, dramatic exit from the Toronto Maple Leafs is now entirely in the rearview mirror. The change of scenery has unlocked a brand new version of his game.
Vegas is heavily gearing up for another deep postseason run this spring. They are relying on their new weapon to carry the offensive load when the hockey gets heavy.
Marner is driving their transition game, commanding the power play, and piling up helpers out west. He looks completely rejuvenated in a locker room with championship pedigree.
Meanwhile, the current situation back in Ontario is looking remarkably bleak for a franchise desperate for any kind of success. The vibes are sitting at an all-time low.
The Maple Leafs are actively preparing to be massive sellers at the approaching NHL trade deadline. Unloading expiring contracts and completely retooling the roster is the new reality.
Watching their former franchise cornerstone thrive under the bright lights of Vegas has to sting for that loyal fan base. The Golden Knights clearly won this bitter divorce.
