Nic Dowd gave John Tortorella a fresh Game 2 problem when his post-whistle words toward Logan Cooley became the story after Sunday’s opener.
Vegas took Game 1 by a 4-2 score, but the clip that kept moving after the final horn had nothing to do with the blue line or the power play.
It was Dowd, notching the go-ahead goal, then turning the temperature up with Cooley after the play was over. That kind of edge is normal in April. The wording in this case pushed it past normal.
That matters because Cooley is not some depth forward Utah can hide for a night. He came into this series with 5 points against Vegas in the regular season and opened his playoff debut with the late first-period goal.
You could see Dowd lean in, jawing at close range while Cooley barely gave him much back. The whole exchange had the look of a matchup that is already personal, not just physical.
That is why the clip hit so hard online and why it now hangs over Game 2 as more than simple playoff noise.

Nic Dowd may have handed Logan Cooley extra fuel
Utah went 2-1-0 against Vegas in the regular season, and Cooley was a big part of that. He has already shown he can get inside this matchup with speed through the middle and quick touches off the rush.
The Mammoth also finished 43-32-6, so this is not a young team just happy to be here. Andre Tourigny’s group can skate, and when Cooley gets room off controlled entries, he changes the pace of the game fast.
Dowd’s edge can still help Vegas. That part is real. He plays a direct game, works low, gets to the crease, and he already tilted Sunday’s opener with the tip that put the Golden Knights ahead for good.
But there is a line between agitation and distraction, especially in a series where Utah’s best answer is to make Cooley even more involved.
Vegas finished 39-26-17 and earned home ice for a reason. Still, Game 2 now carries a different layer. If Dowd shadows Cooley again, every shift between them will feel loaded.
And if Cooley answers on the scoresheet, this turns from one hot clip into the first real pressure point of the series.
Is Nic Dowd giving Logan Cooley extra fuel before Game 2?
