Winnipeg Jets Organization Sign First Ever Female Player
In a groundbreaking moment, the Winnipeg Jets have just announced a historic move by their ECHL affiliate.
The Norfolk Admirals, the ECHL affiliate team of the Jets, has officially signed Mariah Fujimagari as an Emergency Backup Goalie. This makes her the first female player to join an NHL organization.
"Note: In uniform as the emergency backup goaltender for @NorfolkAdmirals in tonight's game at @RailersHC is Mariah Fujimagari. After attending training camp w/ @KalamazooWings, this'll be her first time on the bench for a regular-season ECHL game."
Fujimagari's journey in the ECHL kicked off last summer when she attended the training camp of the Kalamazoo Wings, the ECHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, on a tryout contract. She even participated in an exhibition game.
Although she won't be hitting the ice tonight, Mariah Fujimagari is in uniform as the emergency backup goaltender for the Norfolk Admirals in their game against RailersHC. This marks her first time on the bench for a regular-season ECHL game.
Stay tuned for updates on this groundbreaking development.
