Beloved NCAA hockey player tragically passes away leaving the hockey world in mourning
We mourn the passing of young hockey player Chad Demers who tragically died at the age of 33 after a brave six year battle with cancer
It's always heartbreaking when a young life is cut short, especially due to illness. Hockey players are known for their resilience & strength but sometimes even these qualities are not enough to win the fight against cancer. The loss of such a young & dedicated athlete reminds us how fragile life can actually be.
Chad Demers who is a former NCAA hockey player lost his fight with cancer as reported by Hockey World Wide on Instagram. He was admired for his determination both on & off the ice & his battle against cancer showed his true character.
In 2018 Demers was diagnosed with cancer but he continued to stay active in the sport he loved. Most recently he worked as an assistant coach at Augustana University which is a role he took on in the summer of 2023. Even while facing the toughest battle of his life, he remained committed to helping shape future hockey talent.
"Chad was so much more than a coach for us," Augustana head coach Garrett Raboin said. "He was a brother, a husband, a father. Those are the things that were most important to him. He just cherished his wife and kids. That's what makes this so hard."
Chad Demers will be remembered as a valued player, coach & member of the hockey community. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife, children, family, and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
