Long-time NHL defenseman Jordie Benn officially announced his retirement this summer, just before the 2024-25 season.
Jordie has often been in the shadow of his younger brother Jamie, the long-time captain of the Dallas Stars. While Jordie never won any individual awards like Jamie, he still had a solid career of his own.
Jordie played over 600 regular-season games for several teams, with nearly half of them coming as a member of the Stars, where he spent parts of six seasons playing alongside his brother. In honor of his career, the Stars shared a special post congratulating him.
Despite Jamie being drafted by the Stars in the 5th round of the 2007 draft, Jordie went undrafted. This makes his journey to the NHL even more impressive, as very few undrafted players have played as many games as Jordie. The NHLPA even honored him with a post celebrating his career after he hung up his skates.
Though he was mainly a bottom-pair defenseman, Jordie was a reliable, physical player. He had a career +19 rating, despite facing tough matchups and playing for some average teams. He also contributed 26 goals and 137 points over his career.
Enjoy your retirement, Jordie!
