Brady Tkachuk put Ottawa's head coach in a brutal spot after a late hit turned into total first-period chaos.

The sequence snowballed fast. Tkachuk finished a hit late, Logan Stanley came right after him, and the temperature changed in a hurry along the boards.
That part alone would have been enough to drive the story. Two emotional players getting into it early always changes the bench, the crowd, and the rest of the matchup.
But it did not stop there. Tkachuk and Stanley dropped the gloves, turning one heated exchange into a full flashpoint before the game had even settled.
Here is the fight :
And here is what started it :
Then came the strangest piece of it. Tkachuk was also tagged with a 2-minute slashing minor while sitting on the bench after he caught Beck Malenstyn in the face with the butt end of his stick.
That is why this clip took off so quickly. Ottawa's captain did not just cross the line once in open ice. He helped create two separate moments that dragged the game off script.
The visual is what makes it stick. Stanley is tied up with Tkachuk near the glass, gloves are on the ice, and the bench area stays chaotic even after the first scrum breaks.

Tkachuk's edge crossed into a problem

This is the kind of sequence coaches hate because it leaves no clean defense. A hard hit can be argued. A fight can be explained. A stick penalty from the bench is much tougher to sell.
And that is where Tkachuk opened the door to criticism. He plays on emotion and that edge is part of what makes him dangerous, but this time the emotion looked sloppy instead of useful.
Ottawa can live with a captain trying to drag his group into the fight. What it cannot love is a captain creating avoidable trouble in two different ways during the same stretch.
Stanley's response added to the spectacle, but Tkachuk stayed at the center of the whole sequence. The late hit started it, the fight amplified it, and the bench minor made the story bigger.
That puts all the attention back on discipline. When a captain loses control of the moment, every shift after that gets watched harder and every coaching decision around him gets louder.
This is why the play matters beyond one penalty sheet entry. Brady Tkachuk brought energy, no question, but after a late hit he also handed Ottawa a mess that never needed to get this far.
