In the final moments of the Battle of Ontario, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly was ejected for a cross check to Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig's head.
Morgan Rielly's Hearing Date Has Been Confirmed
The NHL Player Safety Department has informed Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly that he will meet in-person for a hearing for cross-checking Ottawa's Ridly Greig on Tuesday afternoon.
Rielly's in-person hearing will be held Tuesday afternoon at the NHL's New York office.
After the game, Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe supported Rielly's actions
"I thought it was appropriate. Our players have the right to react."
Toronto captain John Tavares expressed displeasure with the outcome of the empty-net goal, emphasizing that the team will stick together and stand their ground when necessary.
Rielly is facing a suspension of minimum 5 games, which would be a first in his 11-season NHL career.
