Originally drafted by the Islanders in the fifth round (148th overall) in 2008, Martin signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016, where Lamoriello was the GM at the time. He returned to the Islanders in a 2018 trade, shortly after Lamoriello was hired by the team.
Throughout his career, Martin has recorded 176 points (81 goals, 95 assists) and ranks second all-time in hits with 3,854 since the league began tracking them in 2007-08.
