The Colorado Avalanche have claimed veteran goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen from the Winnipeg Jets off waivers. Edmonton Oilers forward Raphael Lavoie has also been claimed again by the Vegas Golden Knights for the 3rd time in a row.
Back in July it seemed unlikely but after the past week of Jets training camp it became clear that Winnipeg was leaning towards keeping Eric Comrie as the backup for star goalie Connor Hellebuyck a two time Vezina Trophy winner rather than Kaapo Kahkonen. That decision was made official when the Jets placed Kahkonen on waivers on Thursday.
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman has reported that Kahkonen has been claimed by the Colorado Avalanche.
For the 6th day in a row Raphael Lavoie has either been placed on or claimed off waivers by the Oilers or Golden Knights.
According to Elliotte Friedman the Golden Knights were the only team to put in a waiver claim for Lavoie on Friday which means they can now send him directly to their AHL affiliate.
The Oilers had reclaimed Lavoie from the Golden Knights on Wednesday but he didn't play in their 6-0 loss in the season opener. The Oilers placed him on waivers again on Thursday.
Lavoie has appeared in seven NHL games for the Oilers but has yet to record a point. Last season he scored 28 goals in 66 games with the Bakersfield Condors.
