Igor Chernyshov left early as Martin St-Louis watched the Bell Centre go quiet after the Sharks rookie crashed hard in the opening seconds.

The scene changed the whole night in a hurry. Chernyshov went down after contact along the neutral-zone boards and struggled to get back to his skates.
San Jose later confirmed he was rushed to the hospital and was undergoing tests. That update instantly pushed the score and the matchup into the background.
What made it tougher to watch was how fast the benches reacted. Players on both sides stopped thinking about the next shift and started looking straight toward the ice.
Mike Matheson stayed close after the play, and the crowd recognized the gravity of it right away. The ovation as Chernyshov was helped off said everything about the mood in the building.
That's a real blow for Ryan Warsofsky's group. The Sharks came into the night 31-26-6, fresh off a 4-2 road win over Boston, and this was supposed to be another measuring-stick game on the trip.
Chernyshov had already put up 11 points in 15 games this season, which is why this felt bigger than just losing a winger for one night. San Jose doesn't have many young forwards pushing this quickly.

A scary moment changed the temperature

Montreal had its own edge coming in. St-Louis' club started the night 36-18-10 and had won 3 straight, so the Bell Centre was set for a fast, emotional game before the injury froze everything.
Even after play resumed, the building never really got back to normal. The noise dropped, the shifts felt tense, and every hard bump along the boards drew a little more attention.
On the ice, the game was tied 1-1 in the second period. Cole Caufield opened the scoring for Montreal, then Macklin Celebrini answered for San Jose, a reminder that both clubs still had to find a way to refocus.
The Canadiens also held a 16-12 shots edge at that point, but that barely felt like the story. Once a player leaves in visible distress, everything else gets filtered through that moment.
For Warsofsky, the next issue is obvious. If Chernyshov misses time, San Jose loses speed, another option on the wing, and one more young piece that had started to carve out a real role.
That's why everyone will be waiting on the next update. The Sharks got their point across with the hospital announcement, and now the only thing that matters is whether Igor Chernyshov is okay.
