While the Carolina Hurricanes have not had the greatest start to the season considering their expectations, they do still have a lot of things going for them. One big thing is that the team currently has a surplus of NHL level defensemen. As a result, they are reportedly looking to trade one of their blueliners in an effort to add to other parts of the roster.
Friedman Reveals Hurricanes Trade Plans
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman dropped the news on Hockey Night In Canada's Saturday Headlines segment last night. What he had to say was quite surprising.
"There is word Carolina is looking to move a defenseman. The name hearing a lot out there is Tony DeAngelo, but there are other things that the Carolina Hurricanes will potentially consider."
The Hurricanes re-acquired DeAngelo this offseason after the Flyers bought him out. Ironically, it was the Hurricanes that had traded him to the Flyers in the first place. Now he seems to be on his way out of Carolina yet again.
Another Option For Carolina
Another blueliner the team could move is Brett Pesce. Pesce, 28, is in the final year of a four-year deal that carries a cap hit of 4.025 million dollars. Contract negotiations with the veteran defenseman have reportedly reached an impasse, making it likely that he will test the free agent market this offseason.
