Insider Confirms Trade Talks Surrounding Olympic Gold Medalist And World Cup Champion Have Intensified
With the recent news that the San Jose Sharks are shopping Mario Ferraro in the trade market, it seems as though he's not the only defenseman on the way out of San Jose.
Insider Elliotte Friedman Confirms Trade Talks Surrounding Olympic Gold Medalist Marc-Edouard Vlasic Have Intensified
According to insider Elliotte Friedman, there is a strong indication that the Sharks organization want to trade Marc-Edouard Vlasic, who has frequently found himself as a healthy scratch. With two more seasons left on his contract and an average annual value of $7 million, moving Vlasic could become challenging.
Friedman (32TP): "I have no doubt they want to move Vlasic, they're not scratching a guy as much as they are cause they're happy with him.. This year and 2 more at $7M, and there's some signing bonuses there too, is he going to be able to prove to a team he's 75% of what he was?"
It appears the only feasible scenario for the Sharks to part ways with Vlasic, who has a three-team trade list, is if they agree to retain half of his cap hit. However, even with that, they will need to sweeten the deal by adding a draft pick or prospect.
Given Vlasic's age who is turning 37 in March, he's obviously not the same player who won gold with team Canada in 2014 and the World Cup in 2016. With that said, the likelihood of attracting substantial interest in the trade market is low although he could help a contending team with his veteran leadership on the 3rd pair.
