The Montreal Canadiens have three active goalies on their roster.

They recently gave Samuel Montembault, the unofficial number one of the team, a three-year, $3.15 million expansion. The young Cayden Primeau has been showing great promise this season, and the veteran Jake Allen has a year left on his $3.85 million deal.
According to many experts, the Canadiens should trade one of their goalies this season.

Montreal to Trade a Goalie Soon? Many Teams Reportedly Interested

The renowned insider Pierre LeBrun shared important informations concerning the interest generated on the trade market by Jake Allen.
Many teams are looking for a reliable goaltender to help them in the race to the playoffs. According to LeBrun, two teams with goalie problems showed interest in the veteran goalie.
"LeBrun on Insider Trading says the Carolina Hurricanes have talked to Montreal about Jake Allen recently, the Devils have discussed Jake Allen internally. Martin Brodeur was in St. Louis with Jake Allen, so he knows him well.

Devils and Hurricanes: Top Contenders for Allen

LeBrun provided additional details in a recent paper for The Athletic:
"The Devils/Hurricanes situation alone is interesting because they're both battling in the standings, two preseason Cup contenders who have had their goalie issues. I wonder if Montreal could play one against the other.

I think Carolina still hasn't decided if it truly needs to trade for a goalie or if it can hang in there until Freddie Andersen potentially returns at some point from his blood clot issue. It's going to depend on how things go over the next few weeks.

Devils executive Marty Brodeur is well-versed on Allen from their time together in St. Louis. But again, no clear indication if that's a path the Devils will for sure follow.

One thing to remember with Allen is he's not a rental player. He's got another year on his deal at a $3.85 million cap hit (although it's $3.3 million total in real cash next year). And he's got a seven-team no-trade list."
