Fleury is coming off a year in which he put up not the most impressive numbers of his career, but certainly good enough, which is what Tampa would be looking for. He played 46 games last year putting up a .908 save percentage and a 2.85 goals-against-average. The 38-year-old put up a record of 24-16-4. This year is the preseason, he has shown that he still has the ability to be a quality goaltender and he still has his sense of humor.
Since Tampa's goalie situation was revealed several goalies have been linked to the team. Fleury would be a stop-gap measure to fill in while Vasilevskiy is recovering from surgery. The lightning do not need a world beater in net to survive the first two months of the season so Fleury could make sense from their perspective. From the Wild's perspective, they could get future assets from a player on an expiring contract. Similarly, Fleury does not fit into Minnesota's long-term plans.
