The Winnipeg Jets have been quiet this summer, but it's now revealed that a major trade with the Washington Capitals fell apart.

The 2024 NHL Draft was full of drama, and weeks later, we're learning about trades that almost happened. One such deal involved the Jets and Capitals and centered around Connor McMichael but ultimately fell apart.

According to a report from RMNB, the Jets were actively looking to trade Rutger McGroarty and nearly struck a deal with Washington for the talented 23-year-old McMichael. This was surprising since McMichael had just signed a two-year extension with Washington after a career-high season with 18 goals, 15 assists, and 33 points in 80 games.

Capitals and Jets reportedly discussed trade that involved Connor McMichael at 2024 NHL Draft

Although the deal didn't go through, it shows Winnipeg's willingness to trade McGroarty. His character issues might be a concern for other teams, but the Jets are clearly looking to compete for the Cup in 2024/25. With several teams needing veterans to swap for McGroarty, expect interest in him to increase as the season approaches.
