Martin Necas has been at the center of a lot of drama during the 2024 offseason, and today that drama seems to be ending with a major update.
The Carolina Hurricanes announced that they have agreed to a contract extension with Necas. This news, first reported by Elliotte Friedman, comes as a surprise after recent reports indicated the two sides were far from a deal.
"Martin Necas 2x$6.5M with #Canes"
"Marty's staying in Raleighwood 🙌 The #Canes have agreed to terms with forward Martin Necas on a two-year contract extension!"
After the Hurricanes were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there were rumors that Necas wanted to be traded. However, his representatives and General Manager Eric Tulsky managed to work out a short-term deal. It's still unclear if Necas is open to a long-term deal with the Hurricanes.
Regardless, the Hurricanes now have more time and flexibility to work on a trade or a longer-term contract. They also secure Necas back in their top six for a Stanley Cup run in 2024-25.
