At this time of the year, roster moves are made for a reason. The Buffalo Sabres, who already completed a trade with the Colorado Avalanche yesterday, could be on the verge of making another deal involving a former first overall pick.
Buffalo Sabres Scratch Erik Johnson For Trade Related Reasons
David Pagnotta reported that Johnson was out of the lineup last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs because "of the time of year".
While he also mentioned that this isn't officially for trade-related reasons, saying that it's "the time of year" means the opposite.
He added that Kevyn Adams, the Sabres' general manager, has been working with Johnson's agent, Pat Brisson, to find a contender team for the veteran.
Here's Pagnotta's full statement:
"Erik Johnson has missed the last few games because of illness, but he's out tonight because of the time of year, per Don Granato. Not officially scratched for trade-related reasons, but #LetsGoBuffalo GM Kevyn Adams has been working with agent Pat Brisson to find EJ a contender to join."
Johnson, 35, would certainly like to be traded to a team with Stanley Cup aspirations, in what could be one of the last runs of his career.
