Today, just moments after signing his extension with the Carolina Hurricanes, reports emerged about two nearly missed trades involving Martin Necas.
The Hurricanes were rumored to be shopping forward Martin Necas throughout the summer due to his frustration over not being played at center, which led to a strained relationship with the team. Despite the turmoil, Necas has now signed an extension with the Hurricanes.

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, two teams made significant efforts to acquire Martin Necas, and he confirmed the trade packages offered by one of the teams.
Frank Seravalli revealed that the Buffalo Sabres had a potential deal in place for Necas, but he refused to sign an extension with them.
The Buffalo #Sabres reportedly had an offer on the table for Martin Necas that may have been accepted, but Necas informed the Sabres he wasn't interested in re-signing in Buffalo. Per, Frank Seravalli.
The second team, the Winnipeg Jets, offered a trade package including top young players Cole Perfetti, Rutger McGroarty, and a draft pick. However, the Hurricanes rejected this offer.

While this trade would have provided fair value for Necas, it would have hindered the Hurricanes' chances of remaining immediate contenders. With Necas now signed to a two-year extension, the Hurricanes secure a player they know can succeed with them. If things go well, the two sides might work out a long-term extension. If not, there will always be teams willing to offer similar prices in a trade for Necas.
