On Wednesday, reports emerged that Patrice Bergeron, the former Boston Bruins captain could make his way back to the NHL, and now, the 38-year old has responded.
Bergeron shuts down return rumours
When those rumours started flying, there were no doubt fans excited about the potential of a return, but in the first comments since they emerged, Bergeron shut down the idea immediately.
According to a Boston Bruins reporter, he got in contact with Bergeron, and it's safe to say his denial of a return was emphatic.
In case anyone wanted to know, I asked Patrice Bergeron about his «comeback». Via text, he responded «I am NOT making a comeback.» His emphasis on the «NOT.» Carry on.
At 38-years of age, a return for Bergeron was always going to be unlikely, but given that he put up 58 points in his last season in the NHL, it's clear that he's in the shape to do it again, but these comments may now finally close the door on his on-ice NHL career.
