In his recent appearance on the Cam and Strick Podcast, Jake Debrusk exposed his former Boston Bruins teammate defenseman Zdeno Chara as the one player who intimidated him.
The Boston Bruins have one of the longest histories of daunting players of any NHL team. Jake DeBrusk, even in the last seven years, has skated alongside many of them before his recent contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
"Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Jake DeBrusk on a 7-year contract with a $5.5M AAV."
Despite the clear competition for the title of 'scariest Boston Bruins player,' 27-year-old forward Jake DeBrusk shared his pick. In his recent interview on the Cam and Strick Podcast, Jake Debrusk exposed his retired defenseman Zdeno Chara as the only player who genuinely intimidated him.
"Super calm demeanor. Like such a nice guy and I love Z, but at the beginning, you're intimidated. You are straight-up intimidated seeing Z for the first time. I remember the first time I saw him on the ice; it was even more intimidating. We had a one-on-one drill, and I was like, 'Oh my God, I don't even know how to attack this guy right now.' It's like I never seen anything like that at the time, but you get used to it as time goes on."
Zdeno Chara played 1680 games in the NHL over 24 years. After playing for the Islanders, Senators, Bruins, and Capitals, Chara retired at the age of 44. However, his veteran status was always less intimidating than his height, standing at a staggering 6'9".
