The hockey community remains vigilant following the tragic passing of Adam Johnson due to a skate blade incident. Last night, another scare unfolded during the game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Boston Bruins as Michael Bunting attempted to kick Brad Marchand in the face.
Penguins forward Michael Bunting and Bruins forward Brad Marchand got tangled up near center ice. As they separated, Bunting spun and seemed to fall forward, with his skate coming dangerously close to Marchand. Take a look at the footage.
Given the recent tragedy involving Adam Johnson, any incident involving skate blades is taken extremely seriously. Bunting's action was risky, and it's something that NHL Player Safety should review.
While Bunting's move was reckless, it's not entirely clear if it was intentional, especially considering the way the two players disengaged. Nevertheless, players must strive to keep their skates on the ice at all times.
Thankfully, Marchand was unharmed as it seemed the skate blade caught his visor. However, the outcome could have been catastrophic.
