The Flames are just three years away from moving into a new venue. Today, construction officially began with a sod-laying event. The new building, named Scotia Place, is expected to be ready for the Flames before the 2027-28 NHL season.
Scotia Place will replace the outdated Scotiabank Saddledome, where the Flames have played since the early 1980s. The Saddledome has poor acoustics, making it hard to attract top musical acts. The new arena aims to fix this issue.
The Saddledome is the second oldest arena in the NHL, after Madison Square Garden, which recently had a billion-dollar renovation.
