Rick Nash, the general manager for the World Championships representing Hockey Canada, has formally contacted Connor Bedard for the forthcoming tournament.
As mentioned on Insider Trading, 🇨🇦 GM Rick Nash has reached out to Connor Bedard and Mason McTavish so far gauging their interest in playing in the men's worlds. Nash is waiting for more NHL teams to be officially eliminated before reaching out to more players.
This is part of the early stages of forming the team's roster, and they've approached McTavish and Bedard because their teams are out of the playoffs, making them available. LeBrun also noted that Bedard is expected to participate.
"No official word, but the answer is expected to be a yes for Connor Bedard to play at the Men's World Championship for Team Canada in May. #Blackhawks
It is Team Canada's plan to also reach out to Sidney Crosby if/when #LetsGoPens are eliminated from playoff contention."
Additionally, LeBrun mentioned a plan to approach Sidney Crosby once the Penguins are officially eliminated, which would add an exciting dynamic, as Bedard, a young talent, could potentially play alongside his childhood idol. The 2024 IIHF World Championship is scheduled to take place in Czechia from May 10-26.
