The Dallas Stars have stirred controversy with a disrespectful song choice following their game two win against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.
For the past few years, the Oilers have used the song "La Bamba" after every home game win as a tribute to Joey Moss, who passed away in 2020, and Ben Stelter, a young fan who passed away from cancer in 2022.
"Lore check for those in need, the @EdmontonOilers play «La Bamba» as tribute to Joey Moss who passed in 2020, it was his favorite song. Ben Stelter who was close to the team popularized «Play La Bamba Baby» passed in 2022. It's about as sacred as the anthem for the team."
The song holds special meaning for the Oilers, and the Stars' use of it was seen as deeply disrespectful.
After their game two victory, the Stars played "La Bamba" at the American Airlines Center.
It will be interesting to see if
Connor McDavid,
Leon Draisaitl, and the rest of the Oilers come into game three in Edmonton motivated and fired up to take down the Stars.
