Last night, the Dallas Stars suffered a significant blow when defenseman Chris Tanev left the game with an injury after blocking a shot.
Tanev blocked a shot off his foot in the second period and was seen hobbling to the tunnel shortly after. He couldn't return for the rest of the game.

Today, at the airport in Edmonton, Tanev was spotted wearing a boot, confirming a serious injury to his foot.

It's a positive sign for the Stars that Tanev is walking without assistance other than the boot. Given that it's the third round of the playoffs, Tanev would likely push through a serious injury, like a break or a severe sprain, to stay in the lineup. After the game, Stars coach Pete DeBoer couldn't specify when Tanev will return but joked that it might be by game 12 of the series.
Losing Chris Tanev for any amount of time against the Oilers would be devastating for the Stars. Acquired in a trade from the Calgary Flames at the deadline, Tanev has stabilized the Stars' defense, making it one of the strongest in the NHL. Without him, the Stars are a much weaker team.
