Corey Perry, a Stanley Cup champion and current member of the Edmonton Oilers, might be nearing the end of his NHL career.
Once considered one of the NHL's top players, Perry's career took a downturn this season. He started with a promising opportunity to play alongside Connor Bedard with the Chicago Blackhawks. However, things went wrong after an incident at a team event led to the Blackhawks terminating his contract.
After a break from the game, Perry received an offer from the Edmonton Oilers and signed a $775,000 contract in January to play the rest of the season and the playoffs with them.
Unfortunately, his time with the Oilers hasn't gone as planned. He was benched for the 6th and 7th games against the Vancouver Canucks and missed the first game of the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
This isn't the ending Perry would have wanted for his career. While he might still play in the playoffs if the Oilers keep winning, it's possible that coach Kris Knoblauch will stick with his current lineup.
