Trade Rumors Emerge As Martin St Louis Rips Arber Xhekaj Before Sending Him Down To AHL

In case you missed the news yesterday, the Montreal Canadiens activated defenseman Arber Xhekaj off the injured reserve and immediately assigned him to the team's AHL affiliate Laval Rocket.

Many were surprised about this move as he hasn't been out of the lineup for too long to suggest sending him down for a conditioning stint.

The 22-year-old defenseman Xhekaj has just one goal and three points in 17 games with the Canadiens this season.

Former Habs enforcer-turned-media-analyst Georges Laraque drops a bombshell, revealing a recent falling out between Xhekaj and head coach Martin St. Louis. According to Laraque, St. Louis didn't hold back ripping Xhekaj for what was his play which has been too aggressive apparently.

So basically what Laraque says is that St. Louis ripped into Xhekaj in front of his teammates following a loss. He challenged Xhekaj to clean up his game, which Xhekaj has since done but now he doesn't really fit into the team's needs. Laraque goes on to say that he wouldn't be surprised if the falling out between the pair ended up with Xhekaj seeking a trade elsewhere.

I find it hard to believe that the relationship between Xhekaj and St. Louis can't be fixed going forward. They are both known for their no-nonsense approach and share a pride in their craft. St. Louis, having built a Hall of Fame career has translated that success into coaching despite minimal experience.

Xhekaj, though playing a different style, shares the same resilient spirit. Just two years ago, he was stocking shelves at Costco, and his mission to crack the Canadiens' roster proved successful. He established himself as a force during his rookie campaign. I have no doubt that this stint in the minor leagues will serve him well in the end.
