The Rangers now look to target a former teammate of Chris Drury sparking outrage amongst Rangers fans.
New York Rangers Reportedly Eyeing General Manager's Former College Teammate, Not Peter Laviolette
Chris Drury had a lengthy NHL career spanning nearly 900 games but before he even started his NHL career, he captained the Boston University hockey team. While at Boston, he played with a few people who would go on to have careers in the NHL scene such as Mike Grier, Jay Pandolfo, and John Hynes.
Now with the Rangers looking for a new head coach, Drury is looking towards Hynes as the next potential coach for the Rangers. This has sparked outrage amongst Rangers fans for numerous reasons.
The reason Rangers fans are upset is because Hynes had a poor stint in New Jersey. He developed Jack Hughes by placing him on the fourth line with grinders and bruisers which was terrible for his development. Most recently with Nashville, he led them to a few disappointing seasons.
With the Rangers' future dependent on their young stars, Hynes is not the coach to develop Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko into at least top-line options.
