The New York Rangers had a trade ready to send Jacob Trouba to his hometown Red Wings, but he blocked the deal, resulting in no transaction.
There's nothing wrong with Trouba's decision, as he had placed Detroit on his no-trade list before submitting it to the Rangers. The surprise comes from the fact that Trouba is from Michigan, so many thought he would welcome the chance to play in front of hometown fans.
It was crazy to learn that Trouba, a Michigan native, added DET to his no-trade list when he heard that's where #NYR wanted to send him.
All legal, too, as he did it before he submitted it to NYR.
Reports getting out changed everything for NYR.
What an ugly situation.

Trouba had a solid year with the Rangers, scoring 3 goals and adding 19 assists in 69 games. However, he struggled defensively, finishing with a -4 rating, which may explain why the Rangers are looking to move on from him.
Sunday @NYCNeil discussed the difficult situation w/#NYR & Trouba & how it can be difficult for a GM to navigate.

Any team would appreciate having a leader like Trouba, who brings a strong physical presence, but it's clear that the Red Wings won't be his next destination.
