After plenty of drama this off-season in the Big Apple, there may be a solution to the Jacob Trouba situation after all.
The New York Rangers fell short in the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again in 2024, and now they're reportedly looking to shake things up, with rumours of a trade brewing with captain Jacob Trouba. Things have hit a snag however, and with him being able to use his no-movement clause, it appears as though a trade is becoming less and less likely.
Now, according to a report, the possibility of a buy-out is becoming the best option for GM Chris Drury as the Rangers look to finally make a Stanley Cup Finals run.
This is a legitimate possibility at this point. If the #NYR cant move Trouba somewhere other than #Sabres or #LGRW, a buyout is very possible. Its going to be an ugly scene at MSG if the fans boo the captain due to this whole situation, so Drury has some work to do.
This is a tough situation however, as Trouba's play has fallen off in the past year, but given that they named him captain, it's not a move that can be made easily. Still, the Red Wings and Sabres remain interested in a trade, and while that's fallen apart several times, the interest remains there.
Ultimately, it appears as though Trouba may not be a Ranger when the 2024/25 season begins, and although a trade seemed most likely, it now appears as though a buy-out is becoming a legitimate option.
