Former NHL Player Pitches His Services To John Tortorella And The Flyers
John Tortorella has been in the news a lot over the last 48 hours. Most of the storylines revolve around the blockbuster trade sending Cutter Gauthier out of town. One NHL defenseman responded to Torts' handling of the situation with a pitch to join the Flyers.
Tortorella Lays Into Reporter For Reporting A False Rumor
Since Cutter Gauthier was traded rumors have been flying about why he wanted to be traded. One that caught on and spread on social media like wildfire was that former Flyer Kevin Hayes influenced Gauthier's opinion of Philadelphia. This report has been since debunked.
In his press conference this morning Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella asked the media room who started the rumor. A reporter named Anthony SanFilippo claimed responsibility for doing so. Once SanFilippo came forward Tortorella laid into the reporter.

John Tortorella ripped into Anthony SanFilippo:
"Is the guy here that caused Kevin Hayes a problem?"
Yes.
"Are kidding me? Do you think Kevin Hayes is going to do something like that?
"It pisses me off that you guys throw that shit around and it affects someone's life. Kevin Hayes and I had a problem, we couldn't come to an agreement on how to play. That's a good man. That's a good man. And what you said is going to stay with him. That's what you guys don't understand. And you're going to sit there and say you have the right sources. I call bull."
Here is a video of the exchange between the two.
Many around the NHL praised Tortorella for his handling of the situation. Tortorella did not need to defend his former player but did so anyway. One former NHLer was so inspired he offered his services to Tortorella in the future.
Former NHL Defenseman Teases A Comeback To Support Tortorella
Former NHL defenseman Jason Demers was so moved by the support Tortorella showed to his former player he offered to come out of retirement to play in Philadelphia.
If the need a D-man I would pay to come play for Tortorella loved what he did backing Hayes! I'd run through a wall for this guy #putmeincoach
Demers was known as a stable presence on the blue line during his playing days. Having last played in 2022 Demers likely will not be returning to the NHL. Even still this is huge public praise for a controversial head coach like Tortorella.
