The Leafs Face Tough Decisions With Cap Situation

It is no secret that the Leafs are one of the most cap strapped teams in the league. As the regular season is coming up just days away the team will be forced to make moved in order to get cap compliant by Monday's 5pm eastern deadline. One such cap casualty? Matthew Knies.

As Leafs Nation writer Nick Richard pointed out on Twitter, Knies will almost certainly be sent down to the American league tomorrow. He does provide Leafs fans with some good news though. This move is purely a paper transaction in order for the team to be cap compliant before they can put players on long term injured reserve (LTIR). As such, it should be expected that he would get called back up after those moves are made.

Potential LTIR candidates for the Leafs include Jake Muzzin, Matt Murray, and Connor Timmins.
