At this point, it's been no secret that the St. Louis Blues GM was in attendance at a recent Maple Leafs game, and now, speculation has turned to one key defenseman for St. Louis.

A veteran presence

After that appearance from Doug Armstrong, the speculation surrounding a potential deal ramped up, and now, it appears the Maple Leafs target is officially known.

According to a source, veteran Robert Bortuzzo is the perfect target for Toronto as they look to upgrade their blue line alongside Morgan Rielly.

Robert Bortuzzo hasn't played yet this season for STL, and they're carrying 8D (primarily to play their young D).

He's 6'4, shoots right, has a cup ring, is from Thunder Bay, is somewhat physical, and has squared off against every heavyweight in the past 5 years.

A trade imminent?

While it makes sense for both parties, salary cap constraints would make a deal tough to come by, with many details to figure out, but if they can do that, this is a move that would benefit both teams.

The Leafs have started 2023-24 hot offensively with 14 goals through three games, but they have also allowed 13, so any help on the blue line would be great right now, so keep an eye on a potential deal to happen very soon.
