After announcing his retirement from the NHL, Wayne Simmonds shared his true thoughts on how he was mistreated in his final year with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Wayne Simmonds expressed his dissatisfaction with his hometown team during an interview with Joshua Clipperton of the Canadian Press. While Simmonds initially tried to be positive, his bitterness about his tenure with the Leafs became apparent.
"Nice to be able to play at home," Simmonds began when discussing his time with the Leafs. "From the playing aspect, it wasn't what I hoped ... I'm still grateful to the organization for allowing me to put on the Maple Leaf. That's an iconic jersey. It's something that I'll never forget."
However, when the conversation shifted to current Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves, Simmonds' discontent became more evident. He suggested that Reaves faced challenges at the beginning of the season and didn't get enough opportunities to showcase his skills, drawing parallels to his own experience with the team.
"It's a little bit of a tough time at the beginning of the season, but I don't think he got too many opportunities to actually be able to do what he can do," Simmonds remarked about Reaves. "That's just me knowing how it happened for me. Feel like it's going much of the same for him."
Simmonds hinted at the difficulties athletes face as they age, acknowledging the inevitable decline in performance over time. Despite his frustrations, he maintained gratitude for the opportunity to wear the iconic Maple Leafs jersey.
