Former Leafs GM Kyle Dubas has shared his biggest mistake during his time with the team, specifically criticizing John Tavares in a recent interview.
Speaking with The Athletic's Craig Custance, Dubas revealed that his biggest regret was pursuing Tavares in the 2018 free agency, which had a major impact on other contracts.
«The thing I learned was once we signed John to the (AAV) we did, it lifted the lid on the entire ceiling,» Dubas said.
Money has always been tight for the Leafs, leading fans to question why Dubas spent so much on Tavares when they were dealing with contract issues for other star players like Marner and Nylander.
