It's no secret the NHL lacks elite goaltenders. Now, a top NHL-ready prospect has reportedly asked for a trade.

When the Nashville Predators announced their eight-year, $62 million contract with goaltender Juuse Saros, fans immediately worried about the future of top prospect Yaroslav Askarov.
At 22 years old, Askarov is considered one of the top young goaltenders in hockey. However, with Saros now firmly in place, Askarov's path to becoming the Predators' starting goalie is blocked.
Askarov has only played three NHL games, so it's understandable why the Predators wouldn't move on from Saros just yet. However, this situation leaves Askarov without a clear path to the NHL.
So, what happens next?
According to a report from Russian publication SOV Sport, Askarov's agent, Dan Milstein, suggested that it might be best for the young goaltender to find a new team. Milstein confirmed that he and the Predators have been discussing various options to get Askarov into a better situation.
Yaroslav Askarov's agent Dan Milstein recently spoke to a Russian news outlet about his future 👇

«Askarov has the potential & should become an elite goaltender in the NHL. Recently we have been working together with the club under different scenarios. Yaroslav has proven himself that he's an NHL player»
Does this sound like a subtle trade request? Milstein is known for these kinds of PR moves, so it wouldn't be surprising if things are happening behind the scenes. He works hard to place his clients in the best possible situations, so it wouldn't be a shock to see Askarov traded by the end of the 2024 offseason.
Stay tuned.
