McDonagh trade sparks speculation of a major Marner move to Nashville

The Nashville Predators were one of the first teams linked to Mitch Marner after the Maple Leafs' playoff loss, and now all signs are pointing that way again.
On Tuesday, the Predators kicked off their off-season by trading defenseman Ryan McDonagh back to his former team, the Tampa Bay Lightning. This move has been connected to Nashville's interest in Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner, as it gives the Predators more assets to potentially make a deal with Toronto.

With Craig Berube now coaching the Leafs, it's unclear how interested Toronto is in a Marner trade. However, since Marner is a free agent in the summer of 2025, it might make sense to move him now. After clearing $26 million in cap space and acquiring another valuable draft pick, Nashville seems well-positioned for a major move.
