In a recent match between the Golden Knights and the San Jose Sharks, an issue emerged.
Vegas' goalie, Logan Thompson, who was the backup for the game, wanted to sport a Cancer ribbon on his helmet to mark the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer Month. However, the League denied his request.
"Per sources, #VegasBorn goalie Logan Thompson wanted to put a Cancer ribbon on his helmet design but was told he couldn't by the NHL. It is Hockey Fights Cancer Month in the NHL. Thompson is the backup goalie tonight against the #SJSharks."
Bettman Criticized for Banning Support for Cancer Awareness
This development is unfortunate. Promoting a cause as important as cancer awareness should be encouraged at all times.
Despite dedicating a month to this cause, the NHL does not permit a player to display a modest ribbon.
The right of players to back causes they believe in should be respected.
