Announcing the news with a playful tweet, the Golden Knights revealed the extension, locking Hanifin in for an average annual value (AAV) of $7.35 million per season, as reported by Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.
Hanifin joined Vegas on March 6 in a trade with the Calgary Flames, involving Daniil Miromanov, a first-round pick, and a conditional third-round pick. Philadelphia received a fifth-round selection for retaining half of his salary.
Drafted fifth overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2015, Hanifin spent three seasons with them before being traded to Calgary in 2018. He has amassed 675 career NHL games, tallying 62 goals and 283 points across his tenure with the Hurricanes, Flames, and now, the Golden Knights.
