The Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets faced off in heated match Thursday night and something ultra rare emerged.

Columbus Blue Jackets Starting Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins Lets His Emotions Get the Better of Him and Fights Tom Wilson In Overtime

An uncommon player vs goalie fight emerged between Tom Wilson of the Capitals and Elvis Merzlikins of the Blue Jackets. The incident occurred in overtime as Wilson, known for his physical style, aggressively approached the net and lost his balance crashing into the Blue Jackets goaltender until all hell broke loose.

#CBJ Elvis Merzlikins: #ALLCaps Tom Wilson had been abusing him all game a slash of his glove, a slew-footed trip when the puck went into the corner. Said Wilson tried to «take his knee out» on the play that landed him in net, then punched him when he tried to get his stick.

The referees decided to penalize only Merzlikins with roughing, a decision that generated controversy. The Capitals capitalized on the ensuing power play, with Alex Ovechkin scoring the game-winning goal and finally ending his goal scoring drought.

What a night!!
