Connor Bedard has been without a doubt the Blackhawks most important player this season. Now the team will have to find ways to win without him as a recent injury has turned out to be worse than expected.
Bedard Out Indefinitely After Suffering Fractured Jaw
The Blackhawks rookie sensation is set to miss a minimum of ten days after the team placed him on injured reserve today. The 18-year-old suffered a fractured jaw when he was hit by Devils defenseman Brendan Smith is his game last night.
UPDATE: We have placed Connor Bedard (fractured jaw) and Nick Foligno (fractured left finger) on injured reserve.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman added to the news saying that there is currently no timeline for Bedard's return.
No timeline for Connor Bedard's recovery/return as of now...we will see how imaging and next few days go
It seems that his recovery time will be dependent on the extent of the fracture. Needless to say though, the Blackhawks will greatly miss Bedard's presence, especially on special teams. Bedard has single handedly made their powerplay work as without him the unit has essentially been no better than as if they were playing 5 on 5.
All of that being said, it seems as though the rookie will be out at least a couple of weeks. In that time we could very well see the Blackhawks fall back into the last spot in the NHL standings. Currently, the San Jose Sharks hold that spot but they are just three points back of the Hawks and they are set to get their captain Logan Couture back from injury soon.
