The Winnipeg Jets were hosting the Minnesota Wild last night, ended up as a 4-2 win for the Wild. However, the win came at a significant cost.
During the third period, the Wild's star player Kirill Kaprizov suffered a severe lower-body injury after taking a hit from the Jets' towering defenseman, Logan Stanley. As Stanley landed on top of Kaprizov, his legs twisted awkwardly as he hit the ice.
Kaprizov, a 25-year-old Russian native, has been having an outstanding season, amassing 39 goals, 35 assists, and 74 points in 65 games this year. He is a crucial offensive player for the Wild, leading the team in scoring, with the next closest player being Mats Zuccarello with 59 points this season.
After the game, Wild head coach Dean Evason had no updates on Kaprizov's condition. However, he mentioned that they may receive more information about his injury following a medical examination tomorrow.
Selected by the Wild in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, Kaprizov spent six seasons in the KHL before making his NHL debut with the Wild in the 2020-21 season. He is currently in the second year of his five-year contract, which has a $9 million cap hit.
