The NHL may have been overtaken by other leagues in the United States in terms of overall viewership, but there's still plenty of interest in the league, and after two successful expansions in the past six years, it appears the league could be eyeing yet another new team.
However, when asked about the potential in recent interviews, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has revealed that nothing is close, and that the league's focus is elsewhere ahead of the 2023-24 regular season.
With such a talent base and the Vegas Golden Knights winning their first Cup a season ago however, it makes too much sense for the league from a fan and a money perspective to not look into further expansion.
According to NHL's premier insider Pierre Lebrun however, things could be changing on that front, as he's declared it's just a matter of time until the NHL's 33rd team arrives.
These are the four cities that have been linked to an expansion team the most over the past year or two, and with so much interest, the NHL will have to look into another team, so keep an eye on this space going forward as the league look towards their next team.
