Alex Ovechkin began his NHL career in 2005-06 and has since amassed 1350 games, 1486 points, and (of course) his 822 goals as he chases down Wayne Gretzky for sole possession of first all-time.
Ovechkin also turned 38 in September of this year. As we know with all hockey stars, eventually time catches up with them and their production falls off a cliff at the twilight of their career.
Crazy Ovechkin Stat
Ovechkin has been a shot production machine in his career, always seeming to land a shot on goal every game. Not to mention he routinely appears to score more than 40 goals every year.
NHL.com's Tom Gulitti noted an interesting stat after the Capitals lost to the Ottawa Senators Wednesday night.
In 19 NHL seasons, Alex Ovechkin has never had a game of zero shots in more than one game. Gulitti had another stat to bring up afterwards.
Thankfully, Ovechkin still attempted some shots. He also has not scored a goal yet, and the longest it has ever taken him to score a goal to start the year was four games.
Capitals Start
The Capitals have started the season pretty up and down, going 1-2 to start the year. The team's only win was a shootout, and the two losses were by a combined score of 10-1. A very difficult start for the team, but it is not all doom and gloom as they are learning a new system, and have quite a few new younger NHL players.
