Emergency situation forces American goalie to play for a different country
Due to unforeseen circumstances with the Swedish team, American goaltender Joey Slavick had to represent Sweden in the World Junior Summer Showcase.
After the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, hockey fans have been eagerly waiting for some on-ice action. Their wishes have been granted as the World Junior Summer Showcase is officially underway.

On the first day, two matchups featured American teams. The White team faced Finland, and the Blue team faced Sweden.

However, the Swedish team faced a goaltending emergency and had to call in a backup. Seventeen-year-old Joey Slavick from the United States stepped in for Sweden.

Despite his opportunity to play for another nation, Slavick couldn't turn the tide. USA Blue defeated Sweden with a decisive 7-2 score. Although the result wasn't what Sweden hoped for, they are likely grateful to Slavick for stepping in. Hopefully, they can get their usual goaltender back to avoid future blowouts.
