Former NHL Enforcer Chris Simon faced tough times after his hockey career ended. Struggling with the aftermath of years of head trauma and signs of CTE, he reportedly relied on social assistance and disability programs. Tragically, at just 52 years old, Simon took his own life.

His family confirmed that he battled CTE, which they believe ultimately led to his death. They are grieving deeply and ask for privacy during this difficult time.
According to ESPN, Chris' family released a statement
The family strongly believes and witnessed firsthand, that Chris struggled immensely from CTE which unfortunately resulted in his death.

We are grieving with the loss of our son, brother, father, partner, teammate and friend. The entire Wawa community is sharing in our grief. We will not be releasing any further details at this time and ask for privacy during this very difficult time. We appreciate everyone who shares in our tragic loss.

Simon's NHL career included over 100 fighting majors, accumulating 1,824 penalty minutes and 305 points in 864 games. The hockey community expressed love and support for him, recognizing his off-ice kindness and willingness to help teammates.
It's saddening that despite his struggles, Simon couldn't access the help he needed from the NHL and NHLPA.
