It's quite ironic that Tim Peel, the disgraced former National Hockey League referee, is now making waves with his unfiltered opinions on the sport. Remember, it was a hot mic incident that led to his early retirement from officiating.
Ex-NHL Referee Tim Peel Calls Out Leafs Fans
Recently, Peel stirred the pot again on social media, drawing the anger of Toronto Maple Leafs fans for his take on a hit by New York Rangers rookie Matt Rempe on Leafs defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin.
Peel argued that Rempe's hit shouldn't have been penalized, sparking a firestorm online.
Thanks Dallas. I appreciate that. When a player throws a hit quite often his feet will leave the ice. I don't think this is the case in which he jumps at the Leaf player. But that's just my opinion.
Peel's comments seemed calculated to rile up Maple Leafs supporters, and he wasn't exactly tactful about it. Despite some backlash, he did offer a bit more explanation later on.
However, things went too far when some fans started making threats against Peel. No matter what you think of him or his opinions, that's crossing a line.
It seems like Peel isn't done making waves just yet.
